  1. Props to Larry, but he didn’t “invent this style of music”. He is credited with innovating the “slap” technique with Sly, but fusion/jazz/funk like this developed organically over time.

  2. Not really.

    TofP is R&B/Funk

    Brecker Bros is Jazz/Funk Fusion

Tower of Power was dance/club music, this is jazz fusion.

I do LOVE both bands though. I was lucky enough to see ToP a few years back in Toronto. My Father (a baritone player) actualy knows a couple guys who played with TofP over the years in their ever-changing band.

  3. “And Michael is just the best forever…”

Truer words were never spoken my brother

  4. from 7:58 on I feel like I were hearing Pastorius, it becomes evident how Jason must have been inspired by him. taking inspiration from others it’s the essence of jazz himself. Jason has got a unique style anyway, pretty “busy” and “recognizable”, always creative. And I’m sure lots of musicians keep on taking inspiration from him now! That’s how jazz goes!

  5. jazz bass= 20 frets
    precision bass= 20 frets

main differences are the pickups, neck width (jazz is thinner and rounder), pickgurard shape, body shape, and volume/tone controls

  6. Prescision Basses dont have 24 frets – they have the same as a J-bass. Another difference between the two is the split (2-part) pickup of the P-bass

  7. funny thing is i would have never seen it if u hadnt pointed it out! thanks u made my day! LOL

  8. alright cool. i didn’t know that. i just know the bottom of the jazz bass was angled while the precision is flat….i think
