BBC: The Boer War – Part 4

Watch all 5 in order of succession (1 to 5)

The Boer War was by modern terms a genocide with some of the most horrific acts of barbarism against the Boer People. Concentration camps where invented by the English during the Boer War and in fact the Boers were to be histories 1st holocaust victims!

  1. Sorry lord wellington but some of us dont want to be a part of the empire. i am a south african and you came for our gold. We just wanted to be free and have our own country! Stuburn? Yes we are! In war we are stuburn. We fight stuburnly. But it was our women and children in the camps that was ou weekness.

  3. The Boers were stuburn they should of joined the best empire in the world(the British empire)!!!

  4. The camps were established to deprive the Boer fighters of supplies, and bring the war to a close. As I said before, the camps were not managed properly and that definitely deserves criticism. However, these camps weren’t set up to annihilate the Boer population.

If your dog was attacking people, then it would be a good idea to keep it locked up in the backyard, but I don’t suggest depriving it of food and water!

  5. “Best of reasons” – get real.
No sweat, so i”ll just keep my dog in the backyard for his own good without food and water…

  6. British containment camps during the Boer War were set up for the best of reasons, mainly to protect the loyal Afrikaans and to prevent the Boer Guerrillas from obtaining supplies. The British were not trying to eradicate all Boers. It was due to poor management of the camps, and a lack of adequate food distribution that resulted in many of the tragic deaths.

This documentary is interesting but it seems far more concerned with having another dig at the British than discussing all the facts!

  7. It were the Englishmen who conceived the idea of apartheid and instilled it firmly into South African society

Bliksems! EK hoop ons kry ons land terug eendag!

  9. The “Boers” were just imperialists, just like the British. Neither side was free of wrongdoing. Cecil John Rhodes was a notably monstrous character, someone whose name should be struck from any place of honor in British history. These “poor” Dutchmen are the same people who maintained segregation in South Africa through violence.

  10. The Boers however were defeated in the end at it wasnt solely due to the Concentration camps (though this did play a majour part)
It was more of overall Scorched earth tactics and improved counter insurgency, and of course the numerous conventional battle victories in 1899-1900.

Regardless of Military results, I will not deny that this war, with the tragic list of innocent killed, did expose the dark underside of Victoria’s Empire.

  11. iforgott – the boers lost the war – but were always ounumbered – and when the guerilla war started – only forced to surrender because of concentration camps and scorched earth policy!! nothing like watching your wife and children dying to stop you foghting!! so don’t get too conceited with admiration for british battle victorys!!

  12. Greed for gold and diamoinds Had driven the British. They were prepared to sacrifice their troops, like in the Falklands, what for?
How many British lives had been lost in Senseless wars? Falklands, Boer-war, Iraq and what do they realy gain.Sadley the people making the dicitions for war NEVER end up on the Battle field. They get others to fight their battles for them.

  13. sorry but the Boers lost the war and most of the battles.

and it was more like 90,000 vs 350,000 but remember that this was a guerilla war. Earlier in the war the british had under 35,000-40,000 troops and defeated the Boers in conventional combat. Your an idiot.

  14. What an Honnest oppinion. who are they to condem hitler while they strted the autrocities with the “boers” families. It is like kkeping their families hostage and murdering them, Simply because they are to pathetic to fight. With 500 000 soldies lost compare to the 60 000 boers, the British were a Joke. South Africas Boers Had heart..the British could not fight before havind a cup of tea and surrendered the moment the little finger were shot of,beacuse the lost their tea finger.

  15. By the way, let’s pull the bus over to the side of Pretentious Highway for a minute. Where do you get off telling me that Britain’s imperial designs trumped the Boers’ democratically-elected independence, and justified war crimes? Since when were non-combatants and civilian property legitimate military targets? You need to read up on the Law of Armed Conflict and Geneva Conventions.

  16. What a stupid argument… Roadside bombs and senseless killing of Brittish troops is doing what had has to be done to free Iraq from invasion, or did the Brittish start someting they could not possibly win?

  17. Who the hell is this guy??? :S Does he call himself British?? He’s a traitor… I agree that the concentration camps were a bit far… however Great Britain did what it had to for the Empire and the Boers early on into the war especially after the scorged earth campaign began that they could not possibly win.

  18. Baie eerbaar Kaalkop007…..maar indien jy nog nie agter gekom het nie jy is jou land kwyd soned `n geveg! Die houtkoppe het die Afrikaner verneder sonder om `n skoot te skiet!
