  1. Marineinafew:

    Who is soloing, the instructor?

I can’t imagine a soloist in a highschool band good enough to blow over this song and sound half decent.

Ps. Check out my video of the Humber College Jazz ensemble – pretty good for college students I must say.

  2. Thank you Jonnie… it`s always a good thing to learn from other’s knowledge and experience.
    Have a nice day!

  3. yeh its true its really hard. I say just almost as hard as giant steps but in a different way…

  4. I grew up with the Brecker Brothers and Return To Forever . They were all in a class by themselves . What an incredible musical inspiration they were to young musicians everywhere . If you weren’t totally discourage with yourself after hearing them , they gave you so much inspiration to want to improve your own playing . I had friends in High School that gave up playing after seeing one of their concerts (front row). They just threw up their hands and said “I Quit” . (Ha! Ha!)

  5. Mastropierazo…..Michael and Randy were playing through effects processors since the mid 70’s as that was their sound . Not your basic reverb and delay mind you…..but through envelope filters with harmonic and phazing characteristics. They were way ahead of their time . And yes….Michael Brecker was one the greatest sax players I’ve ever heard . He was the guy that everyone wanted to perform on their album . He will definitely be missed 🙂

  6. great solo!
considering how tough it is (not the changes, but thinking of something to do that fits the song.)
this song can be a serious bitch in solos 😛

  7. Saw this band live at the old Yoshi’s location in Oakland, Ca. Awesome all star band. What can you say, Chambers, Genus, Stern and the Breckers. Super Band fo sho! I really miss Michael Brecker.

  8. the ostinato/riff thing they start at 4:25 is just nay-stee. Chambers and Genus are great together.

  9. fuckin super nice! saw james genus with herbie hancock some weeks ago what a genius!!

  10. I don’t have any specific knowledge in this “trumpet area”, but I can recognize in this sound an octaved sinthesizer besides the main trumpet sound.
Obviously, the main trumpet sound must have some basic sound processing, like EQ and reverb.
That’s all I can comment about this.

  11. unreal…they make it look easy. And its not. This guy dennis 4:20-4:27…what is he doing. How is he able to improve so well.

  12. randy came to a town near me and played with my schools jazz band as well as like 5 other schools from the area. one of the greatest moments of my life.

  13. Well, you see the rack full next to them?
American musicians make no joke, they use tons of equipment for their sound…but therefore you always recognize them and their sound cuts trough anything anytime anywhere.
For detailed specifications u should try to find some specialised article on Google, I think from some brass magazine.
Brass not my speciality, I;m a drummer and mostly use samples. Though my bro is a bassist and also effect-freak.
