Doobie Brothers – China Grove 1974
When the sun comes up on a sleepy little town
Down around San Antone
And the folks are risin for another day
round about their homes
The people of the town are strange
And theyre proud of where they came
Well you’re
talking ’bout China Grove (Talking ’bout your China Grove)
Wo
ho ho! (Wo oh!) (China Grove)
Well, the preacher and the teacher
Lord, theyre a caution
They are the talk of the town
When the gossip gets to flyin
And they aint lyin
When the sun goes fallin down
They say that the fathers insane
And dear Miss Perkins a game
We’re talking ’bout your China Grove
(Talking ’bout your China Grove)
Wo ho ho! ( Wo oh! ) (China Grove)
But every day there’s a new thing comin
The ways of an oriental view
The sheriff and his buddies
With their samurai swords
You can even hear the music at night
And though it’s a part of the Lone Star State
People don’t seem to care
They just keep on looking to the east
((Instrumental)
We’re talking ’bout
your China Grove (Talking ’bout your China Grove)
Wo ho ho! (Wo oh!)

I saw the Doobies earlier this year and both Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons were there and I’m here to tell you THEY STILL ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!! To put it mildly, I was blown away. I had NO idea there were so many Doobie songs I love…I also left with a whole new awareness of and respect for Tom Johnston. That dude totally loves his job as evidenced by his energy and enthusiasm on stage…Did I mention I was blown away?????
Hold on! Let’s not forget that we did not have a microwave for quite some time and that it took years to figure out what we could cook in it and how to cook with it! Reel to reels were cool, but you had to own a splice kit for repairs. Cassette tapes were, well, not ok, as you had to fast forward and rewind and the player could eat your tape. I was rarely able to afford a player with a FF search, so I had to ff, play, listen, ff, play, listen…augh!
its muted on the neck. ive played it a few years ago 😉
brians buthole gonna be sore oh, now…
brian antley is so screwed up…hes going to jail…
I’m almost 100% sure it’s muted on the neck.
It was a Dream man,…study up,…Tom dreampt it, the song, not just a hook and a dance beat and all that!…they work hard on all they’re stuff
A good rock song needs all the elements like a good riff, esoteric meaning-“looking to the east”
?A couple of mumbled lyrics so you’re always wondering what they meant and “anthem quality”
meaning that you could play it as your intro at the biker rally and everyone would shut up and stand still for a minute. This ones a classic from the Brothers Doobie.
Is the intro palm muted or muted on the neck? I’m just a novice guitar player at this time.
SO FRICKIN SICK!!!!!!! I’m 38, so this song is not new to me. However, the intro riff has been stuck in my head for weeks! If it is a curse, smite me smite me! If anyone can think of any good riffs with palm muting, hit me with a list of songs.
Good for you buddy, be nice to your mum 🙂
was Skunk Baxter their guitarist right here, or was he later, or earlier, cause i honestly havent a clue…
